Imagine Cinemas
For one of my courses during Winter 2025, I had to design a large screen display. I chose to do a speculative redesign for Imagine Cinemas to improve their kiosks.

Imagine Cinemas is a small movie theatre chain focused on providing a cozy, intimate viewing experience for their customers at an affordable price. On top of playing the latest movies, they often feature old blockbusters, independent movies, and foreign films.
Based on user reviews and accounts, Imagine Cinemas seem to struggle to provide a fast, user-friendly ticketing experience, leading to longer wait times and customer frustration.
IMPACT: Potential to increase customer spending by 10-15%, raise brand recognition by 48%, and increase customer retention. Shorter lines. Better customer service.

"The only issue is when you get there, even if you have purchased your tickets online, you have to wait in a line to manually enter them in a kiosk for your tickets to get printed instead of scanned. There is also no prior seat selection so my friends and I were a little scattered..."
Google Reviews
"No actual person selling tickets only a self-serve kiosk. Why is it programmed to show sold out showtimes? Waste of time."
"It's my go-to because you really can't beat the price."
After investigating the problem scope, I got a better sense of what exactly needed to be improved.
How can we speed up the process and encourage users to buy more tickets in the future?
Search bar with simple filters and sorting.
Faster way to search and choose tickets.
Highlight special deals and key movie details.
Deliver the right information at the right time.
Clear language and universal icons/graphics.
Clear and concise steps and instructions are shown.
As I made my designs, I got feedback from users and other designers. This ensured my design was not just focusing on UI elements, but actually improved the processes.
After my 3rd iteration, I was happy with the feedback I received and my final results.

I gained valuable experience in analyzing and refining user flows by identifying key issues and implementing effective solutions. By applying heuristic and Gestalt principles, I was able to pinpoint those necessary changes to enhance the functionality and accessibility of the large screen display. I also improved my ability to balance fundamental UX principles with visually engaging and intuitive UI design.
